# 3.2 Centralized Ownership and Control

In most AI systems today, models live within the infrastructure of centralized service providers. These providers determine how models are accessed, updated, priced, and restricted. Users rarely control:

* model weights,
* training data,
* update schedules,
* downstream usage rights.

This raises a fundamental issue:\
**users do not own the intelligence they rely on.**

Without decentralized provenance or on-chain lifecycle tracking, models cannot serve as autonomous digital assets that outlive the platforms that originally hosted them.
